Winter Driving Tips

The weather outside always eventually gets frightful here in Utah. This can create treacherous driving conditions, even for the experienced snow driver. So for those of you who have to brave this winter wonderland, the Stockton 12 Honda team put together some helpful tips for driving in winter conditions.

First of all, it's important that you keep a few items in your vehicle in case you need them:
  • Ice scraper
  • Tire chains
  • Small shovel or ice pick
  • Water supply
  • A flashlight
  • Gloves, coats and blankets
  • Signal devices, such as a flare
One thing that will make a tremendous impact on your ability to grip the road in slippery conditions is your tires. Snow tires should be applied to your vehicle to help you get the maximum amount of traction. It's also important to keep your tires properly inflated. Remember, your tires are the only part of the vehicle that touches the road!

Here are a few driving tips that will also help you stay out of trouble in icy and snowy conditions:
  • Slow down! This might seem obvious, but your ability to stop and stay in control depends upon your speed.
  • Brake gently and leave plenty of room. If your wheels lock up, or you feel your vehicle sliding when attempting to stop, pump your brakes--don't stand on them.
  • Steer in the direction you want your front end to go. If your rear wheels slide left, gently turn the wheel left. If your rear wheels slide right, gently turn to the right to gain control.
  • AWD or 4X4 vehicles perform much better in the snow that other vehicles.
  • Don't panic! If you feel your vehicle start to slide, don't try to overcorrect the situation. Pump your brakes and use gentle maneuvering to steer the vehicle.
We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season! Plan ahead and be careful out there!

Van Resistance

So, you thought you would never own a Mini-Van. Now you have kid number four on the way and your "cool" little car is already filled to the brim. The daily ritual of cramming soccer balls, toys, 50 lbs. of fruit snacks and diapers into your trunk like it is some kind of nightmarish game of Tetris has you searching for another "cool" vehicle. We hate to break it to you, but you are officially blowing it by not giving the Odyssey a chance.

You haven't road tripped in luxury until you have hit the road in the Odyssey. Whether you have the entire family along or it is just a trip with friends down to Moab for the weekend, the Odyssey can do it all. Some how smart good looking practicality became uncool. We aren't quite sure how this happened, but we are here to set the record straight. The Mini Van is cool. Especially the Odyssey, and here are some of the reasons why:

  • You don't have to climb over some uncomfortable ridiculous seats to get into the 3rd row of seating like you are a 10 year old kid.
  • There is actually room in the third row
  • There is enough room in the back with the seats folded down to spread out and take a nap
  • You can travel with at least 2 bikes, 2 Kayaks, and climbing gear inside of the vehicle with the seats folded down
  • You can take a road trip without paying for gas with your first born child (19 city/28 hwy)
Those are just a few reasons why you should be driving an Odyssey. Not to mention all the bells and whistles that come on that amazing vehicle. Stop resisting the pull of the van. It will only change your life for the better. Hopefully your next family trip will be in an Odyssey. If not, you should reevaluate the way you are traveling. Be cool, drive a van.
